#7WondersOfMC: The Oceanographic Museum

The Oceanographic museum is one of the most iconic monuments and building of the Principality. It is the third "Wonder" of Monaco that we are going to present in our series of the #7WondersOfMC. Information : The Museum is opened every day from 10am to 6pm from January to March and from October to December. In April, June and September it is opened from 10am to 7pm. In the summer, it is opened from 10am to 8.30pm. The entrance costs 14 euros for an adult, 10 euros for a teenager and 7 euros for a child. Tickets are available on our website.


History : Built on the side of the mythical Rock of Monaco, the Oceanographic Museum has been watching over the oceans for over a century. Founded by the Prince Albert I, the great grandfather of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, it was designed as a Palace entirely dedicated to Art and Science.

History : The Oceanographic Museum was inaugurated in 1910 by Monaco's modernist reformer, Prince Albert I and Jacques-Yves Cousteau was the director of the museum from 1957 to 1988. The Museum celebrated its centenary in March 2010, after extensive renovations.

Fact : From the aquariums to the collections of Natural History, including the Shark Lagoon and the Turtle’s Island situated on the panoramic terrace, the Museum offers to visitors a unique learning experience to know, love and protect the oceans.


Fact : Faithful to the vision of its Founder «to gather together in a common eclat the two driving forces of civilization: Art and Science», the Oceanographic Museum opens its doors to contemporary art and hosts major exhibitions by renown international artists like Damien Hirst, Huang Yong Ping, Mark Dion and Marc Quinn.


Fact : Museum presents more than 6000 specimens in their faithfully reconstructed natural habitat.


Fact : The size of the fish's pools range from 100 to 450,000 litres.
